Junior Skills
Burnett Fraser
Junior skills clinics were held in Burnett Fraser and on the Sunshine Coast. 44 swimmers
enjoyed the weekend in Bundaberg where they had a Saturday afternoon and Sunday swim
session, played 10pin bowling and camped at Riverside Retreat. An evening of team challenges
meant swimmers retired ready for a good nights sleep. A great plan for all the parents. It
meant a good nights sleep for all. This weekend is subsidised with each swimmer paying $36
which included a shirt. Many thanks to Scott Hamlet (Fairymead), Jane Stebhens (Kolan),
Anne Walters (Gympie South) & Heather from Burrum for facilitating such a great program .
Thanks also to Fairymead for the yummy food.
Sunshine Coast
Almost fifty Sunshine Coast swimmers meet on Saturday 6 th September 2008, at Immanuel
College, Wises Road, Buderim. The squad program started with guest speaker Brian Stehr
(assisted by Janelle Elford) talking about “Being prepared for training and competition”. The
focus of the presentation was nutrition as many swimmers need to be eating for energy or
energy replacement, in particular at carnivals. Parents and swimmers were invited to attend.
After a healthy morning tea provided by Maroochydore SC & parents, a pool session followed.
Swimmers worked very well together in the busy pool. With Referee Robin Clarke on deck, a
number of parents learnt and practiced Technical Official duties while observing the
swimmers, in particular their starts, turns and finishes. A well earned lunch break followed
which included more examples of healthy eating to aid recovery. Coaches for the day included
Dennye Baxter(Kilcoy), Brendan (Kilcoy), Rob Gough (Mooloolah Valley) & Diane Feldman.
The day was completed with an afternoon activity at Top Shots, Maroochydore were swimmers
were challenged at putt putt golf, the indoor rock climbing wall, blaster boats etc.
South Burnett
The Junior Skills day was held on 6 December at the Murgon pool. Steve Smith was head
coach and most swimmers from the south Burnett attended the day. Following the clinic time
trials were held to allow South Burnett swimmers to gain a current LC time in the lead up to
State Sprints in February. Murgon SC provided a fantastic BBQ lunch for all.
