President’s Report
2008 – 2009
This season has proven to be a challenging year for the committee. In saying that we have had some excellent results and our
membership base is growing. We have had a large number of families do our “Come and Try” and we are seeing club night
numbers increase. Next season we would expect our competitor numbers to increase as new families try a few carnivals for the first
time. With squad numbers increasing we are very optimistic the coming season will prove to be exciting for Fairymead. The club
is really going through a rebuilding stage with large amounts of kids being exposed to the sport for the first time through the
ongoing dedicated efforts of Scott Hamlet and Paul Simms and their wonderful learn to swim instructors at Bundaberg Swim
Academy.
Club Night
Club night is still proving to very popular with families. We found mainly the junior swimmers were well represented and gave
them plenty of opportunities to practice race skills with qualified referees in attendance along with the coaches to give support and
valuable feedback for their development in a fun and positive environment. Club night BBQ always does well.
Uniforms
This year we introduced a dynamic and modern new logo. We have changed club shirts and swimming caps to reflect Fairymead
moving forward but also in keeping with the long history associated with the club.
Competition
This year has seen Fairymead lose its Wide Bay Champion Club crown so proudly worn for the past seven years. It is great to see
other clubs grow and give their swimmers an environment in which to compete and enjoy the sport of swimming. Fairymead
swimmers have performed exceptionally well this year and we have seen many P.B’s along with outstanding results in Regional,
State and National arenas. We have a couple of great coaches in Scott Hamlet and Paul Simms who should be applauded for the
development and success Fairymead enjoys. To the swimmers and families thank you for your support and involvement in making
this a fun and rewarding season. You should all be congratulated for your efforts.
Committee
Thank you for all your hard work and support through what has been a challenging year. I hope to see you all next season and
continue the great work that goes into running a strong and successful club like Fairymead. Fairymead prides itself in providing
opportunities for all levels of swimmers in a positive, fun and rewarding environment.
