Club Nights: Of the 17 programmed club nights 13 were conducted with 4 cancelled due to bad weather. The
number of members who attended each Tuesday night remained steady at between 60 and 70 members. This is a
good number considering the busy lives we and our kids lead. The point score results were higher than in past
seasons showing that the swimmers whilst having fun were able to improve every time they entered the water. The
parent volunteer group that assisted each club night also need a special mention. Without your assistance we could
not run these nights. Providing a safe and fun environment to allow our kids the opportunity to compete/participate at
club nights is our main goal and I believe that once again we have exceeded that goal.
It has been a great year of swimming for our club. Congratulations to all our members.
Committee summary: Throughout the year your committee approved expenditure for a number of programs. This
expenditure as not occurred for a number of reasons but will occur over the next few months. These programs are:
Semi Automatic timing: Approx $16000.00 has been approved to purchase the Aries semi automatic timing
equipment. $14000 of this expenditure has been received from the Qld Government Community Benefit Gambling
Fund as a result of our grant submission complied by Mr Mike Duce. This is a very exciting prospect for our club.
New Laptop computer. For use with the new timing equipment thanks to Milburn and Guttridge Solicitors. $1650.00
New Meet Manager computer program: For use with new Aries timing equipment. $450.00.
New Lease: Reinstatement of lease to Club Gym in the car park of the Aquatic Centre and occupation of part of the
proposed Masters Swimming Club building. $2000. Awaiting survey to be conducted.
New Dive Platforms: Dollar for dollar grant from the Australian Federal Government through the Fraser Coast
Regional Council. Expected total cost $15000. Successful projects for these grants have not been announced to date.
On behalf of our club I thank the sponsors that have supported us over this and previous years. Without your support
we would have much less to spend on our swimmers and the club. We thankyou and hope you continue to support
the members of the Hervey Bay Swimming Club: Thankyou to Bay City Engraving and Awards, Allstrong
Locksmiths and Security, Pialba Health Foods, Fraser Coast Commercial Flooring, Robwill computers, Koala Social
Club, Milburn Guttridge Lawyers, Aquaview café and beach hire, Caffeine Fix Mobile coffee van, Hervey Bay RSL,
Shayla Sailing Cruises, Bobs Tyres, The Good Guys, Harvey Norman, The Beach House Hotel, Innovation Graphix,
Wizard Home Loan, Bunnings Hervey Bay, Bay Pets and Angelo Oliaro Town Planning.
We are very fortunate to have a new sponsor for the club. Soon our club will have a large equipment storage
container erected on site. This container will store equipment such as the trailer, chairs, tables, tents, bar-b-que,
eskies etc. The container is being sponsored by Handy Hire.
Our fundraising this year was better than many past years. We had a very successful major raffle that raised much
needed funds. Thank you to our sponsors who provided the great prices. Special mention to Kingfisher Resort,
Shayla Sailing Cruises, Aquaview Cafe and beach hire and the Good Guys.
I would also like to thank those parents who helped out at the Bunnings sausage sizzle recently. It is amazing the
amount of money that can be made at these types of events.
Finally I would like to thank the current/outgoing executive and management committee for their support throughout
the season. This has been a great group to work with and I am encouraged by the amount of expertise and enthusiasm
they have shown. My workload over the this season has been greatly reduced.
Thanks to all the swimmers in the club for your participation throughout the year and we hope to see you all again
next season.
