PRESIDENTS REPORT 2008/2009 SEASON
The 08/09 season has been a very eventful one for our club this year. Whilst we are only a small club made up of
recreational and competition swimmers, one thing is assured that all our swimmers enjoy themselves in whichever field
they choose to swim. Our club nights which are held weekly on a Tuesday, have been exciting with a lot of swimmers
attending on a regular basis making for entertaining and thrilling nights of friendly competition. Our parent support
throughout the year assisting on these nights has been invaluable and makes the night run smoothly. Each of our
swimmers from 5 years of age upward swam on a weekly basis to not only improve their swimming generally, but also
to add to a friendly atmosphere of competition amongst a group of kids who enjoy their sport of swimming. It was great
to see the smiling faces turning up each week and showing enthusiasm even when the water temperature got a little
more on the cold side.
Our carnivals this year were a great success, we were fortunate enough to hold both the Lions Goodchild shield in
October and then our regular swimming carnival in February. We had great attendance at both carnivals and enjoyed
great days not only for our local kids, but also the feedback received from a number of clubs was also positive. The
volunteers from our small club also managed to ensure the days ran as smoothly as possible, and a special thanks goes
to those technical officials and volunteers from other clubs who helped fill the void on each day when numbers were
running a little short. These carnivals are an integral part of our fundraising for such a small club in a small rural
community.
This season also saw a number of our competitive swimmers attend regular carnivals both within the South Burnett area
and also attending a carnival on the sunshine coast. This has not been done with our swimmers for some years and it
provided these swimmers with the experience of swimming amongst a larger more experienced pool of swimmers. Our
swimmers did not only our club, but themselves very proud when representing the club at various carnivals throughout
the season and hopefully their success and enthusiasm will rub off on some of our more junior members to build our
numbers in the competitive ranks.
Our club has been represented at the Wide Bay Championships this season with a couple of our girls doing us proud for
such a small club. It has been some time since Kilkivan has been represented at this level and it shows the dedication
and commitment of all our swimmers and coaching staff to achieve this. There were also a number of swimmers within
the club who improved their times over the season which resulted in a number of long standing club records being
broken this year – well done to everyone who competed and participated at every level of this club.
On a personal note I would like to express a sincere thanks for the dedication and commitment shown by all our
swimmers, parents, supporters and committee members throughout the season. The involvement of such a small but
dedicated group of people makes our small but active club very successful.
