(SOF) is a non profit organization established in Erfurt in 2005. SOF uses football as a tool for social change. SOF works with University of Erfurt students each semester on various local, regional and international football for development projects. This semester students will form two teams focusing on: • „Street Football Leauge“ - Working on theoretical principles how to built up a street football leauge and development and implementation of such a leauge with fout tournaments in Erfurt in summer 2010. • „Anstoß für ein neues Leben“ – Working on theoretical content of a DFB project which helps to reintegrate young prisoners after their imprisonment. Development of concepts how to improve and implement the project in Thuringia. After a theoretical introduction, supported by lectures of experts, students will develop practical concept- papers and will help to organisize some events. During the semester students will manage existing relationships (Thüringer Fußballverband, Thüringer Justizministerium, Stadt Erfurt, Universitat Erfurt, Goethe Institut, Rheinflanke gGmbH) and will be responsable for their own project-parts. The StuFu will combine Project Management, Communications Science, Media and Internet Technology gives short overwiev about terms of social and justicw politics and will include the use of modern medie (skype, online). The seminar will take place bi-monthly, by turns between both goups. The seminar spoken languages are English and German. "Genocide" and the global conscience BA-Interdisciplinary Studies / Introduction to Methods 15/358 Mi 16—20 A LG 4 D03 S WP O/Q “Never Again”—a broken promise? “Genocide” and the global conscience lim. acc. 20 The StuFu course initiated by the S.O.S. Darfur group and lead by Dr. Kristina Roepstorff and Ms. Sarah El-Richani will closely examine the several dimensions of genocide and humanitarian crises including available definitions to genocide and ethnic cleansing, the socio-economic, political and environmental nature of such crises, related human rights law and declarations, and the role and responsibilities of international actors. The media coverage of Darfur and similar humanitarian crises shall also be examined with particular attention to the concept and theories of framing, media agendas as well as media ethics and responsibilities. A discussion of the peace journalism approach is also envisioned. Furthermore, “social media” and modern technologies used by organisations in the coverage of such crises such as satellite imagery employed by Amnesty international’s Eyes on Darfur project will be surveyed. While the case of Darfur will be given a particular focus, it shall not be the exclusive focus of the course. Other humanitarian crises and genocides ranging from Bosnia and Rwanda to the Holocaust and the Palestinian situation shall also be discussed. The inter-disciplinary course, to be held on a bi-weekly basis, will also feature screening of selected documentaries, and encourages open and vibrant discussions.
