This seminar explores the representation and performance of race and ethnicity in contemporary
American culture. Drawing on a variety of primary sources and critical literature, we will analyze how
various ethnic minorities have used stage, page and screen as a means of analyzing, questioning, and
subverting dominant power structures as well as of defining and redefining cultural identities.
