The Divine Comedy is the central masterpiece of the italian writer Dante Alighieri (1265-1325). Dante
started his work in 1307, working continiously on this topic till his death. Since the text ist nearly 700
years old, it is one of the most important masterpieces of literature ever, a source of knowledge for
people in the following epoques.
The Divine Comedy tells the story about a journey through the three parts of the Afterworld, including the
Hell, the Purgatory and the Paradise.
The course gives an inside in the text, its lecture and its influence on later and especially current works in
arts and culture. Dante influenced many artists in the last 700 years, including Artists, Composers (Liszt,
Tchaikovski) and Musicians (Madonna, Prince), Movie Directors (Seven) and others.
