The Inter-Agenry Publications Committee of the Office bf War Infor;
rnation, from surveys made by the War hbor Board, the Government
Printing Office, and other agencies of the Govrrninent, haa wapnrd of
paper shortages in the nrar future and requests that conwrvation of papet
be emphasized in every direction.
It waa shoiyn that while there waa still ‘in warehouses aiid elsewhero
some stocks of ffncws” and other “ground wood” typrs and grades of
paper, that the basic pulp, chloride, other chrmicals and materials re-
quired for the better grade of book and corrcspondenco papers arc not
to be had. The needed chemicals arc used in explosives and other war
matcriab, and the wood from which the pulp for these papers are niade
has not been harvestcd for the lnst scrcral yrars due to labor shortages.
The papere used since tho beginning of the war have been drawn from
stocks on hand rathcr than from, Rtocks manufactured currently. These
stocks, according to the statrinefits made, are being depletcd rtipidly.
