COOPERATIVE FIELD TRAVEL BY GOVERNMENT AGENCIES
Starting in July 1943, and administered at Atlanta, Ga., for Qov-
Qnmont travel in tliat area, a plan was tried to coordinate tho official
travel facilities of the several Government agencies there, by nieans of
which the prospective passenger or car operator could readily contact
one of the coopcrating agencies designated to act a8 a clearing house,
where arrangements would bl made if possible to obtain accornodations
for those desiring to ride as passengers, or nialre available for joint travel
avehicle and driver scheduled for a planned trip. This was nll done in
connection with the Federal Milcage Conwrvation Progrniii . Substantin1
savings resulted and the plan has since been considerably extsnded to
other arew with prospects of further expansion in the near future. At
this time in addition to Atlanta the plan is in operation at I3oston, New
yorlr, I~hiladelphin, Chicago, Knnsns City, I)enver, Dnllns, and Snn
Francisco.

Weather Burcau personnel planning field travel should prcsent their
itincrarios to the Rcgional Directors suificieiitlymwly for thein to initiate
arrangements through tho Travel Coordinator for transportation in what-
@Per Govcrnment-owned or operated autoniobilo that is found to be available
and suitable. Tliu request for such travel must meet with the
aPProvd of the Regional Director (and in special cases of the Central
Office) prior to the issue of lettors of authorization. Tho Chief of the
Administration Division in the Central Office is Assistant Mileage Ad-
Wnistrator in cliargc of such activities in tho Weather Bureau. Siniilarly
Vehicles operating out of the Regional Offices or elsewhere on Weather
business will be madc nviiilable to other Governinent ngencies
'vhm posaible, and tlle dctnile of tho prospective trips registered with the
Travel Coordinator.
Such cooperative ngreemriits for travel are in accordance with directives
