Information supplementing tho itom which appeared undcr tho above
title in the March iRsue has beoil rcceived from New York University,
one of the inAtitutions to which tuition-frco scholarships arc offered by
the Weather Bureau. A 9-months’ training program in inetcorology
Will begin on July 7, 1944, and tho plan of the courw has been modified
for tho benofit of studentR not cligibh undor tho formor cntranco
Wwirernents. During the first quarter, students will bo taught the
QathematicR and physics nepdcd for an understanding of the theoretical
aspects of the course. Rcvjcw periods in algebra and trigonometry,
Plus instruction in elementary diffei*entinl und integral calculus and in
the fundamcntals of niccIiaiiics and hut, will prcpare thein for Ititr~
%dy of t11e dynaiiiic bmis of nieteoroiogy.
Thc educational prcrcquisitcs are : Sptisfactory completion of (a) at
l%t thrcc yearx of college, (b) high school or collrgr courses in adheed
algobra and trigonometry, and (c) a collogo course in physics or
Chomi8try. Tho Bureau cncouragcs qualified cinployoes (women and
Inen with 4-F classifications) to apply. Application blanks can be obtaincd
from tho Regional Of€i~e~, and should be forwarded togother with
transcript of high school and college work covering the roquireinonts
to thc Contra1 Officc through the Regional Ofico. I
The scholarahipx pay tuition only and the recipient is expccted to
finance his trannportation oosts to and from the univcrsity. 130 will be

It is expected that courscs in profcssional nwtaorology will bo convcned
in tho fall of 1044 at the Univorsity of California at 110s Angelcs and
California Institute of Teclinology at I’asadona, Calif. CourRes at
