308 BahÃ¡âuâllÃ¡h and the New Erahumanity may be released from the corruption of nature andthe darkness of ignorance, be confirmed with ideal virtues andspiritual attributes, and become the dawning-place of mercifulemotions....A hundred thousand times, alas! that ignorant prejudice,unnatural differences and antagonistic principles are yet displayedby the nations of the world toward one another, thuscausing the retardation of general progress. This retrogressioncomes from the fact that the principles of divine civilizationare completely abandoned, and the teachings of the prophetsare forgotten.
The Most Great PeaceIn all ages the Prophets of God have foretold the coming of anera of “peace on earth, goodwill among men.” As we have alreadyseen Bahá’u’lláh, in the most glowing and confident terms,confirms these prophecies and declares that their fulfillment is athand. ‘Abdu’l-Bahá says:—... in this marvellous cycle, the earth will be transformed,and the world of humanity arrayed in tranquility and beauty.Disputes, quarrels, and murders will be replaced by peace,truth, and concord; among the nations, peoples, races, andcountries, love and amity will appear. Co-operation andunion will be established, and finally war will be entirelysuppressed.... Universal peace will raise its tent in the centreof the earth, and the Blessed Tree of Life will grow andspread to such an extent that it will overshadow the East andthe West. Strong and weak, rich and poor, antagonistic sectsand hostile nations—which are like the wolf and the lamb, theleopard and kid, the lion and calf—will act towards each otherwith the most complete love, friendship, justice, and equity.The world will be filled with science, with the knowledge ofthe reality of the mysteries of beings, and with the knowledgeof God.—Some Answered Questions, pp. 74–75.
