Tomb on Mount CarmelAfter <strong>the</strong> Báb’s martyrdom, His remains, with those of His devotedcompanion, were thrown on <strong>the</strong> edge of <strong>the</strong> moat outside<strong>the</strong> city wall. On <strong>the</strong> second night <strong>the</strong>y were rescued at midnightby some of <strong>the</strong> Bábís, <strong>and</strong> after being concealed for years insecret depositories in Persia, were ultimately brought, with greatdanger <strong>and</strong> difficulty, to <strong>the</strong> Holy L<strong>and</strong>. There <strong>the</strong>y are nowinterred in a tomb beautifully situated on <strong>the</strong> slope of MountCarmel, not far from <strong>the</strong> Cave of Elijah, <strong>and</strong> only a few milesfrom <strong>the</strong> spot where Bahá’u’lláh spent His last years <strong>and</strong> whereHis remains now lie. Among <strong>the</strong> thous<strong>and</strong>s of pilgrims from allparts of <strong>the</strong> world who come to pay homage at <strong>the</strong> Holy Tomb ofBahá’u’lláh, none omit to offer a prayer also at <strong>the</strong> shrine of Hisdevoted lover <strong>and</strong> forerunner, <strong>the</strong> Báb.
