422 Baháâuâlláh and the New EraConsider the sun. Were it to say now, “I am the sun ofyesterday,” it would speak the truth. And should it, bearingthe sequence of time in mind, claim to be other than thatsun, it still would speak the truth. In like manner, if it besaid that all the days are but one and the same, it is correctand true. And if it be said, with respect to their particularnames and designations, that they differ, that again is true.For though they are the same, yet one doth recognize in each aseparate designation, a specific attribute, a particular character.Conceive accordingly the distinction, variation, and unitycharacteristic of the various Manifestations of holiness, thatthou mayest comprehend the allusions made by the creatorof all names and attributes to the mysteries of distinction andunity, and discover the answer to thy question as to whythat everlasting Beauty should have, at sundry times, calledHimself by different names and titles.—Kitáb-i-Íqán, 21–22.‘Abdu’l-Bahá says:—Know that the return of Christ for a second time dothnot mean what the people believe, but rather signifieth theOne promised to come after Him. He shall come with theKingdom of God and His Power which hath surrounded theworld. This dominion is in the world of hearts and spirits, andnot in that of matter; for the material world is not comparableto a single wing of a fly, in the sight of the Lord, wert thouof those who know! Verily Christ came with His Kingdomfrom the beginning which hath no beginning, and will comewith His Kingdom to the eternity of eternities, inasmuch as inthis sense “Christ” is an expression of the Divine Reality, thesimple Essence and heavenly Entity, which hath no beginningnor ending. It hath appearance, arising, manifestation andsetting in each of the cycles.
