6. VEHICLES6.1 GeneralParty Chiefs, managers or supervisors should ensure that all new drivers are testedbefore they are permitted to drive a vehicle.The following rules should be strictly observed:1) Always have and carry a valid driver is license for the type of vehicle you areoperating and be sure that registration and permit plates are available for allofficial inspections. Ensure that all vehicle operators who transport hazardousmaterials have the appropriate operator’s license and training according to localregulatory requirements.2) The use of seat belts by all occupants of cars, vans and heavy goods vehicles(e.g., trucks, personnel carriers, etc.) is mandatory.3) All employees should be properly seated or standing on a properly constructedriding platform when the vehicle is in motion. Do not get on or off a vehicle whilein motion.4) The use of riding platforms is for designated personnel only. No passengershould ride on these platforms.5) Do not smoke during fueling operations. Each fuel tank should be clearly markedNO SMOKING, and the type of fuel should be clearly identified near the fuelingspout. Shut the engine off when refueling.6) The vehicle operator should ensure that a daily visual inspection of all vehicleshas been made. Before the vehicle is moved, brakes, steering, horn, lights andtires should be in operating condition and all lights, windows and reflectors shouldbe clean. Left and right rear view mirrors and windshield wipers should be in goodcondition. Walk around your vehicle prior to driving.Page 86 of 136
