10) When carrying cargo, evenly distribute the weight and make sure it is securelyfastened down.11) Three wheeled All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) are extremely dangerous and shouldnot be used.12) Ride environmentally friendly.13) Adding a whip flag to the ATV makes it more visible.6.8.1 All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Night OperationsNight operations using All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) greatly increase the risk of accidentsdue to restricted visibility and should be considered carefully.6.9 Snowmobiles1) Service the snowmobile before beginning winter operations. Keep a regularmaintenance schedule throughout the season.2) Check equipment before every trip and inspect the mechanical operation of thesnowmobile.3) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be worn, e.g., helmet, gloves, highvisibility clothing or tarp. Keep in mind wind chill.4) A hand-held radio should be taken on all trips. It may be useful to carry a GlobalPositioning System (GPS) receiver.5) Keep snowmobile clean of dirt, ice and slush.6) Do not stand in front of or behind the snowmobile when the engine is running.7) Begin your trip with a full tank of fuel.8) Carry a basic tool kit: spare drive belt, first aid kit, waterproof matches, candlesand high energy food.9) Carry a flashlight for late in the day or night trips.10) Keep speed at a safe level.11) Beware of rocks and tree stumps hidden by recent snowfalls. Avoid waterways.Traveling on frozen lakes and rivers can be fatal.
