Radiolaria 14 Secretary's Letter
Five years have passed since the last issue,
RADIOLARIA 13. Five years of almost explosive
activity in all fields of research dealing with
Radiolaria. When I was elected secretary in 1991,
during INTERRAD VI, Florence, I promised to
produce RADIOLARIA 14 in 1992. However, this
work was delayed by several circumstances. One
of them was, that most of my time dedicated to
radiolarian research was tied up with the
preparation of the Jurassic-Cretaceous Atlas (see
announcement on inside of back cover). Another
was, that my collaborators were busy finishing
their thesis and could not spear time for
RADIOLARIA. A third was my eye illness that
caused months of incapacity for office work in
1993, but is stabilized since.
Now, Spela Gorican, Ruth Jud and Luis
O'Dogherty, have finished their thesis and I would
like to congratulate them for their excellent work
and thank them for their collaboration during the
past years. Since, Luis has taken the entire
production of RADIOLARIA 14 in his hands. The
result is the volume that you just opened. It
represents certainly the most complete
bibliography on Radiolaria of the last five years. I
am thankful to Luis for his work and wish that he
would find time in the future to continue what he
started.
Besides the regular production of
RADIOLARIA on paper, we would like to
promote databases that contain the same

information in searchable form. Perhaps next year
we can offer you RADIOLARIA on diskette...
However, we do not want to compete with
"RADREFLIB" by A. Sanfilippo and others (see
announcement p. 107). Annika and her
colleagues are doing excellent work that has
helped us much through all the past years.
However, even the best bibliography can be
improved. One of the bases for such improvement
is the knowledge of the latest references on
radiolarian work. It depends on your contribution.
Please, send reprints of your recent publications,
or of any publication that has never been reported
in RADIOLARIA.
At last, I would like to thank all contributors to
this issue for their effort to make it lively and upto-date.
RADIOLARIA is as good as you want it
to be. RADIOLARIA is depending on your
informations, progress reports, opinions,
discussions ....
I would like thank you all for your patience
and fidelity and hope to see you at INTERRAD
VII, Osaka for another exciting meeting on
Radiolaria.
