QUARTOSEPTCENTENNIAL SPECIAL SOUVENIRThanksgiving Service<strong>Madras</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>College</strong> commenced itsQuartoseptcentennial celebrations with the theme“Celebrating History, Serving Humanity” in the quadrangleof the college with a Thanksgiving Service on 7 th January2012, Saturday at 4 p.m. The dignitaries who presidedover the function were the Very Rev. Robert Willis, Deanof Canterbury Cathedral, UK, Very Rev. Canon Ivor SmithCameron (Alumnus of MCC), former Chaplain to the Queen,UK, Dr A Besant.C.Raj, Chairman, Board of Directors, <strong>Madras</strong><strong>Christian</strong> <strong>College</strong>, Mr. K. M. Mammen, President, AlumniAssociation of <strong>Madras</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>College</strong>, Dr R.W. AlexanderJesudasan, Principal of <strong>Madras</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>College</strong> andMr.Sundaraj, Bursar, <strong>Madras</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>College</strong>. The servicewas attended by former principals, former staff, HODs,teaching and administrative staff, students, alumni andwell wishers of <strong>Madras</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>College</strong>.A bugle call by the Indian Air Force Band signalled thebeginning of a procession towards the stage. A welcomeaddress was delivered by Dr R.W. Alexander Jesudasan. Rev.Robert Willis gave the message at the Thanksgiving Service.The Thanksgiving Service invitationThe Thanksgiving Service was accompanied by a choir of 175members. The choristers were students, staff and alumni ofthe college and it was conducted by Dr Arul Sironmoney. Thecollege also received a certificate of appreciation from theArchbishop of Canterbury, the most Rev. Dr Rowan Williams.View of the main stageThe Thanksgiving Service also saw the release of two importantbooks namely ‘Book of Worship’ containing Hymns and Prayers,to be used at the Bishop Heber Chapel, which was released byRev. Robert Willis and received by the Principal Dr R.W.AlexanderJesudasan, and the autobiography of William Miller translatedto Tamil, titled ‘Miller ennum Mamanidar’ edited by Dr.Gnana Chandra Johnson of the Department of Tamil, whichwas released by Rev. Canon Ivor Smith Cameron and the firstcopy received by Dr A. Besant C Raj.20
