QUARTOSEPTCENTENNIAL SPECIAL SOUVENIRPlanting of 175 Species ofTree SaplingsThe Madras Christian College campus has becomea model for a Green Campus and is probably one of thebiodiversity rich campus in India. As on date, the campusharbours about 140 tree species, about 60 shrubs anddouble the number of herbs.During the QSC year it was decided to add more varieties oftrees to the campus. Our campus has a mixture of nativeand alien trees with the balance of composition tiltingtowards the native trees.Hence it has been planned to add 175 different speciesof trees under the project ‘Enriching the Greenery of MCCCampus’. Many of the trees that are to be planted will benative trees especially from Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest. Afew botanical curios such as Baobabs and rare varieties ofpalms have already been planted. Other rare alien speciesare also under consideration for the purpose of teaching,research and public attraction.
