QUARTOSEPTCENTENNIAL SPECIAL SOUVENIRDedication of MCC CommunityCollegeThe MCC Community College was established as part of the175th year celebrations of the college. It was inaugurated byThe Honourable Minister for Animal Husbandry, Governmentof Tamil Nadu, T.K.M. Chinnayya, an alumnus of MCC, inWest Tambaram on 11th January, 2013.Community Colleges are an alternative system of educationwhich aim at empowering individuals through appropriateskill development leading to gainful employment inassociation with the local community and industry.Dr. R W Alexander Jesudasan, Principal & Secretary, MCCwelcomed the gathering and said that the community collegewill offer educational opportunities to all sections of society,particularly the marginalized and the disadvantaged offeringvocational skills through formal trainings for livelihood.“The vision of each community college should be includingthe excluded and giving the best to the least” said Rev. Dr.Xavier Alphonse, Director of the Indian Centre for Researchand Development of Community Education, Chennai, whodelivered the inaugural address.He added that “Community college is not an educationsystem. It is a people’s initiative.” While talking aboutthe achievements of the first Indian principal of MCC, heremarked that Dr. Chandran Devanesen was a pioneer incommunity college programme.Mr. T.K.M. Chinnayya lauded the efforts of the MCCadministration in having made Tambaram an educationalhub.The community college would provide practical educationto increase the employability of the residents of Tambaramas the unemployment rates have increased from 8.8 %in2002 to 11% at present as pointed out by Dr. Besant C. Raj,Chairman of the MCC Board of Directors and of the MCCAssociation. He also said that more courses such as tailoring,fashion designing and beautician courses would be added inthe future.
