QUARTOSEPTCENTENNIAL SPECIAL SOUVENIRInauguration of manna schemeA blessed, rejuvenating and long awaited MannaScheme was launched during the Quartoseptcentennialcelebrations of Madras Christian College to support theeconomically weaker students by providing a mid-daymeal by the Centre for Women Studies (CWS) on the 17 thSeptember, 2012. Since then it has been providing food forforty two students regularly at the Students Centre. Incomefor the Manna Scheme was generated through a “food fest”conducted on 3 rd September 2012 by the Centre for WomenStudies with the generous support and encouragement ofthe college community. The Co-ordinator of the CWS looksforward to sustain this programme during the coming years.The Manna Scheme inaugurationNational Conference on‘The Contributions ofMadras Christian Collegein the making of ModernIndia - A Historical Perspective’A Quartoseptcentennial Commemorative two day NationalConference on ‘The Contributions of Madras Christian Collegein the making of Modern India - A Historical Perspective’ wasorganized by the Department of History, Madras ChristianCollege on the 25 th and 26 th of October. It was inauguratedby Dr Shridhar, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher EducationDepartment, Government of Tamil Nadu. Eminent historian andformer Chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR)Prof. M G S Narayanan delivered the keynote address.Principal inaugurating the Food FestThe conference saw academicians and scholars from acrossthe country such as Mr.Theodore Bhaskaran, former Chief PostMaster General and Film Historian, Dr Manorama Sharma ofNEHU Shillong, Dr Shankari Sundararaman from JawaharlalNehru University, New Delhi, Dr A Gangatharan from BanarasHindu University, and Mr. Lucas Robert, Director, Art & Cultureand Director, Youth and Sports of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.All of them made presentations on the contributions of MCCtowards the making of modern India.The Valedictory address was given by an alumnus ofthe Department of History, MCC, Mr. Seshasai, IPS, jointCommissioner of Police, Central Crime Branch, Chennai Police.Prof. N Rajendran, Dean of Arts, Bharathidasan University andmember, ICHR delivered the special address.Principal honouring the Chief Guest38Dignitaries on the dais
QUARTOSEPTCENTENNIAL SPECIAL SOUVENIR175 Hours of Chain Prayer for MCCAs part of the 175 year celebrations the StudentChristian Movement (SCM) organized a 175 hours of ChainPrayer commencing on 24 th November 2012. The chain prayerbegan with a brief service at Bishop Heber Chapel at 7.30a.m. Rev.Dr Spurgeon led the congregation in the Inauguralprayer at the Bishop Heber Chapel. The Bursar, PastorCharles (alumnus of MCC) and Prof. Livingstone (Departmentof Languages) prayed for the College. Dr.P Wilson gave theintroductory remarks on the 175 hours of Chain Prayer. Itwas attended by teaching and administrative staff, alumniand students of the college. A special prayer was held by thewomen’s wing of SCM from 10 am to 3 pm in Margaret Hall’sconference hall the same day.
