QUARTOSEPTCENTENNIAL SPECIAL SOUVENIRBishop Heber ChapelRededicationDiamond jubilee of the Chapel Dedication Day was heldon Sunday 26 th August 2012. The chapel was dedicatedon 25 th August, 1937 by the Bishop of Thirunelveli Diocese.The Lindsay Commission in 1931 recommended the closureof Bishop Heber College (Anglican College) and suggestedthe amalgamation of the Bishop Heber College withMadras Christian College. As a result Bishop Heber Collegewas merged with MCC in 1935. And the college moved tothe Tambaram campus in 1937, the hall and the chapelwere built for the students and the staff. Right from thebeginning, the chapel serves as a church to the collegecommunity and to the families in and around Tambaram.When the International World Missionary conference washeld in 1938, every day the conference began with HolyCommunion service in the chapel.In the rededication service of the chapel around 400people participated. Dr Ambrose Jayasekaran spoke onhow the chapel served as an instrument in his spiritualgrowth. Later chaplain Rev. Dr Spurgeon preached on thePsalm 46:4, 5. He mentioned that MCC has been the riverfor the past 175 years and several streams of MCC madecities and villages glad. After the service a cake was cutto the mark the 175 th year celebrations. Ms. CatherineSundaraj the daughter of the first Associate Chaplain andDr Mrs. Rani Sironmoney, senior worshippers of the chapelwere honored by the Principal.
