FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK<strong>Madras</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>College</strong>, with its rich heritage, has entered into a historical phase in 2012celebrating the 175 th Year (Quartoseptcentennial) of the founding of this institution. The<strong>College</strong> has been commemorating this milestone in a befitting manner with the theme“Celebrating History – Serving Humanity”. During this year the <strong>College</strong> organized manyprogrammes and initiated many projects revolving around the defining principles of MCC,namely, `academic excellence, social relevance and spiritual vitality’. The celebrations included aThanksgiving Service, Special Sports Day, Founders’ Day Celebration, National Conference onHigher Education, Inauguration of the Centre for Peace Studies, Release of CommemorativeSpecial Postal Cover by the Postal Department, visit of distinguished dignitaries to the <strong>College</strong>such as His Excellency the Governor of Tamil Nadu and many other luminaries in public life,both from within the country and outside.2012 also marked a host of anniversaries for MCC and mention may be made of a few: 75thyear of our migration to Tambaram, 75 th year of the founding of the halls of residence and the125 th year of the founding of the Departments of History, Tamil and Languages.The Quartoseptcentennial celebrations included the launching of the Distinguished Speakers’Lecture Series, M.Phil. programmes in the Departments of Social Work (SFS) and Commerce(SFS), new International Partnerships with the University of Florida, USA, the University<strong>College</strong> Cork, Ireland and Catholique Lille University, France.In the area of infrastructural developments, the <strong>College</strong> has inaugurated a language lab andsmart board class rooms in 23 departments, renovated the Miller Memorial Library and CouncilRoom, refurbished the 75 year old Main Buildings and re-located one of the <strong>College</strong> Cafeterias.The <strong>College</strong> has also begun the construction of major infrastructural projects such as the UGCsponsored Indoor Stadium, new Commerce Block, Extension of International Guest House, anew Classroom Block for MCC Campus School and MCC Community <strong>College</strong>.
