The recommended program plan is given below. Teacher certification<br />
area: Chemistry (6–12). All applicants must meet the current<br />
entrance requirements for teacher-education programs established<br />
by the <strong>Florida</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Education. Formal application is<br />
made during the sophomore year. Application procedures and<br />
requirements may be found in the department’s student handbook.<br />
A full year <strong>of</strong> student teaching during the senior year provides the<br />
student with many experiences encountered in the teaching pr<strong>of</strong>ession.<br />
To graduate from a teacher-education program approved by<br />
the <strong>Florida</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Education, the student must complete<br />
all requirements established pursuant to Section 1004.04 F.S.,<br />
which includes competencies and skills for teacher certification as<br />
prescribed in Rule 6A04.0021, F.A.C., as well as additional content<br />
and instructional practices listed in Sections 1004.04(2), (3) and<br />
(5), F.S. In addition, students must complete the coursework from<br />
an approved program plan with a minimum cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.5,<br />
demonstrate competence in all 12 <strong>Florida</strong> Education Accomplished<br />
Practices, pass all <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Florida</strong> Teacher Certification Examinations<br />
(General Knowledge, Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Education and Subject Area)<br />
and earn a minimum 3.0 grade point average for 18 credit hours <strong>of</strong><br />
student teaching.<br />
Teacher preparation programs in the state <strong>of</strong> <strong>Florida</strong> are required<br />
by Title II, section 207, <strong>of</strong> the Higher Education Act to make public<br />
their Institutional Report Cards. <strong>Florida</strong> Tech’s report card may be<br />
