BUS 3504 MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS (3 credits). Examines<br />
information systems used in business organizations. Includes discussions <strong>of</strong> system<br />
design, implementation and control <strong>of</strong> computer-based systems for managerial planning,<br />
decision-making and control <strong>of</strong> an enterprise. (Students may take BUS 3501 as<br />
either a prerequisite or as a corequisite.) Prerequisites: BUS 1601 or CSE 1301.<br />
BUS 3509 INTRODUCTION TO SPORTS MANAGEMENT (3 credits).<br />
Examines the multiple contexts in which management principles are applied within<br />
the general sports context. Includes discussions <strong>of</strong> sports and recreation programs,<br />
sports communication and marketing, facilities and event management, and pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
development in sports management. Prerequisites: BUS 3501.<br />
BUS 3510 ADVANCED COMPUTER BUSINESS APPLICATIONS (3<br />
credits). Uses Virtual Basic programming to provide an environment and language for<br />
building custom programs that extend Office’s capabilities. Students learn to build<br />
customized business information systems that are fully integrated with standard<br />
Micros<strong>of</strong>t Office applications. (CL) Prerequisites: BUS 1601.<br />
BUS 3511 SYSTEMS ANALYSIS AND DESIGN (3 credits). Introduces and<br />
applies concepts, methods and tools for systems development life-cycle (SDLC)<br />
phases, planning, analysis, design, implementation and maintenance during the development<br />
<strong>of</strong> an information system. Emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving as<br />
an applied approach to developing information systems. Prerequisites: BUS 3504.<br />
BUS 3512 SYSTEMS DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT FOR BUSINESS (3<br />
credits). Introduces students to systems development life cycle and other structured<br />
analysis and design techniques. Includes computer-aided s<strong>of</strong>tware engineering tools<br />
and concepts support the design, development, implementation and documentation<br />
<strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware projects. Presents a modern approach to systems analysis and design.<br />
Prerequisites: BUS 3504 or CSE 2410.<br />
BUS 3514 INTRODUCTION TO OPERATING SYSTEMS AND<br />
NETWORKS FOR BUSINESS (3 credits). Provides understanding <strong>of</strong> computer<br />
operating systems and networks while avoiding technical discussions covered in<br />
traditional operating systems and networking courses. Focus is on practical aspects<br />
<strong>of</strong> evaluating operating system and network alternatives for business. Prerequisites:<br />
BUS 3504.<br />
BUS 3516 ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING SYSTEMS (3 credits).<br />
Provides an understanding <strong>of</strong> enterprise resource planning (ERP), the processcentered<br />
organization, integration <strong>of</strong> enterprise systems, and how ERP supports global<br />
business. Focuses on the ERP concept, basic principles <strong>of</strong> enterprise system s<strong>of</strong>tware,<br />
and the technical issues in applying enterprise systems s<strong>of</strong>tware in decision-making,<br />
using SAP R/3. Corequisites: BUS 3504.<br />
BUS 3517 INFORMATION ASSURANCE AND SECURITY (3 credits). Covers<br />
information security systems within organizations. Emphasizes systems controls,<br />
identifying threats, and techniques for auditing and monitoring access control;<br />
and planning, designing, implementing, managing and auditing security including<br />
enterprise systems. Covers accidental and intentional breaches <strong>of</strong> security and disaster<br />
recovery. Prerequisites: BUS 3514.<br />
BUS 3521 INTRODUCTION TO DATABASE SYSTEMS (3 credits). Introduces<br />
concepts, models and technologies for the design, implementation and management <strong>of</strong><br />
database systems. Applies database technologies for real-world experience in designing<br />
and implementing database systems. Prerequisites: BUS 3511.<br />
BUS 3550 SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Focuses on supply<br />
chain management (SCM) from a global perspective. Encompasses operations<br />
management, purchasing and logistics in managing the supply chain. Covers how<br />
supply chain processes and activities are optimized from suppliers to consumers.<br />
(Requirement: Junior standing.)<br />
BUS 3551 MATERIEL ACQUISITION MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Examines<br />
the life-cycle process <strong>of</strong> the acquisition <strong>of</strong> materiel and materiel systems. Includes<br />
systems management and its application from acquisition to termination. Studies<br />
need requirements, cost and schedule considerations and procurement procedures.<br />
Also includes the evaluation and development <strong>of</strong> purchasing systems. Prerequisites:<br />
BUS 3550.<br />
BUS 3553 MANAGEMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS (3 credits).<br />
Reviews the history <strong>of</strong> transportation. Includes the advantages and disadvantages<br />
<strong>of</strong> various carrier modes. Emphasizes management problems common to all modes<br />
<strong>of</strong> domestic and international transportation. Also discusses transportation engineering,<br />
use <strong>of</strong> facilities, and materiel, economic, personnel, labor and union aspects.<br />
Prerequisites: AVM 3303.<br />
BUS 3601 MARKETING PRINCIPLES (3 credits). Examines the principles <strong>of</strong><br />
marketing. Emphasizes the marketing concept, functions, consumer behavior, market<br />
segmentation, marketing strategy, marketing mixes, market research, marketing<br />
legislation and marketing control, as well as providing a foundation for higher-level<br />
courses in marketing.<br />
BUS 3603 ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION MANAGEMENT (3 credits).<br />
Covers various advertising techniques used in radio, TV, magazines, newspapers,<br />
direct mail and billboards, including the relative advantages <strong>of</strong> the different media.<br />
Also reviews the integration <strong>of</strong> advertising as one element within the promotional and<br />
marketing mix. Prerequisites: BUS 3601.<br />
BUS 3605 CONSUMER BEHAVIOR (3 credits). Examines the consumer<br />
decision-making process and its societal, cultural, environmental, group and<br />
economic determinants. Includes consumer motivations, values, wants and needs.<br />
Teaches how to develop marketing strategies that effectively serve consumers, and<br />
how to use the managerial perspective to improve marketing strategy decisions.<br />
Prerequisites: BUS 3601 or EMK 3601.<br />
BUS 3607 MARKETING RESEARCH (3 credits). Introduces measurement<br />
and research techniques, problem identification and resolution through<br />
formal theory, and evaluation and interpretation <strong>of</strong> market research. Emphasizes<br />
design, execution, analysis and interpretation <strong>of</strong> both qualitative and quantitative<br />
primary research. Requires production <strong>of</strong> a formal report from primary research.<br />
Prerequisites: BUS 3601 or EMK 3601.<br />
BUS 3611 ENTERTAINMENT AND SPORTS MARKETING (3 credits).<br />
Teaches how to distinguish, identify and design events using market research. Includes<br />
types <strong>of</strong> promotions, key components and strengths in branding, and how to develop<br />
a marketing plan. Focuses on the complexity <strong>of</strong> relationship marketing (sponsorship,<br />
fan development, merchandising and event marketing) through promotion strategies.<br />
Prerequisites: BUS 3601 or EMK 3601.<br />
BUS 3612 HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MARKETING (3 credits).<br />
Introduces the key drivers <strong>of</strong> customer satisfaction and behavior. Explores the scope,<br />
complexity and challenges <strong>of</strong> the hospitality, recreation and travel industries. Focuses<br />
on situation analysis, and the planning and management <strong>of</strong> facilities to increase<br />
customer value, loyalty and satisfaction. Prerequisites: BUS 3601 or EMK 3601.<br />
BUS 3700 INTRODUCTION TO LINEAR PROGRAMMING (1 credit).<br />
Introduces the formulation, solution and interpretation <strong>of</strong> linear programming<br />
models used to solve business problems. Noncredit for College <strong>of</strong> Business majors.<br />
Prerequisites: BUS 2703 or MTH 2401.<br />
BUS 3704 QUANTITATIVE METHODS (3 credits). Emphasizes management<br />
science and operations research techniques in solving managerial problems. Includes<br />
linear programming, sensitivity analysis, transportation and assignment problems,<br />
inventory models, CPM and PERT analysis, decision analysis and queuing analysis.<br />
Prerequisites: BUS 2703, MTH 1001 or MTH 1702.<br />
BUS 3705 MANAGING SMALL BUSINESS (3 credits). Focuses on the practical<br />
aspects <strong>of</strong> successfully launching and managing a small-business enterprise. Presents<br />
relevant topics that enable the student to better evaluate entrepreneurial opportunities,<br />
choose small business ownership, and to foresee potential pitfalls in operating a small<br />
business entity. (Requirement: Junior standing.)<br />
BUS 3801 CROSS-CULTURAL MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Examines the<br />
importance <strong>of</strong> effectively managing s<strong>of</strong>t skills in a global organizational context.<br />
Specifically emphasizes the impact <strong>of</strong> national culture in shaping values, behaviors<br />
and employment practices in organizations operating within a global environment.<br />
Prerequisites: BUS 3501.<br />
BUS 3802 GLOBAL MACROECONOMIC ISSUES (3 credits). Explores the<br />
macroeconomic interdependence <strong>of</strong> global economics. Examines the working <strong>of</strong> monetary<br />
and fiscal policies under various exchange-rate regimes and uses international<br />
case studies to assess the policy trilemma, the trade-<strong>of</strong>f among exchange rate stability,<br />
price stability and independent monetary policy. Prerequisites: BUS 2303, BUS 2304.<br />
BUS 3999 RESEARCH 1 (1 credit). Includes selection <strong>of</strong> an industry and completion<br />
<strong>of</strong> a research plan for analysis <strong>of</strong> that industry. Covers primary and secondary<br />
research, research design and resources available for environmental and industry<br />
analysis. First <strong>of</strong> a three-course QEP research sequence. (Requirement: Second<br />
semester junior standing.) (Q)<br />
BUS 4000 RESEARCH 2 (1 credit). Continues BUS 3999 by carrying out the<br />
environmental and industry research planned during the previous course. Includes<br />
collecting, organizing and analyzing relevant information that affects the multiple<br />
environments in which a company operates. Second <strong>of</strong> a three-course QEP research<br />
sequence. (Q) Prerequisites: BUS 3999. Corequisites: BUS 4702.<br />
BUS 4001 RESEARCH 3 (1 credit). Engages students in the revision and resubmission<br />
process, culminating in a final research paper. Applies communication<br />
skills in the development <strong>of</strong> a public poster session and discussion with community<br />
participants. Third <strong>of</strong> a three-course QEP research sequence. (Q) Prerequisites:<br />
BUS 4000.<br />
BUS 4211 INTERNAL AUDIT (3 credits). Examines the pr<strong>of</strong>essional responsibility<br />
<strong>of</strong> auditors; pr<strong>of</strong>essional auditing standards and ethical responsibilities; audit<br />
programs, procedures and evaluation <strong>of</strong> evidence; review and evaluation <strong>of</strong> internal<br />
controls and risks; and effective audit communication. Prerequisites: BUS 3211.<br />
