AVF 2006 INSTRUMENT PILOT (2 credits). Aircraft and simulator (flight<br />

training device) instrument flight procedures in preparation for the FAA instrument<br />

rating. Taken in lieu <strong>of</strong> portions <strong>of</strong> AVF 1002 and AVF 2001 for those students with<br />

previous flight experience. (Requirement: FAA Private Pilot Certificate, 50 flight<br />

hours <strong>of</strong> PIC cross-country experience.)<br />

AVF 2007 HELICOPTER INSTRUMENT PILOT (2 credits). Provides<br />

instrument flight instruction in helicopters and flight training devices to prepare the<br />

student for the FAA instrument helicopter rating practical test. Awards FAA instrument<br />

helicopter rating on successful completion <strong>of</strong> the FAA instrument helicopter<br />

rating written examination, co- and prerequisites, and this course. (Requirements:<br />

FAA helicopter private pilot certificate and class III or higher medical certificate.)<br />

Prerequisites: AVF 1006. Corequisites: AVT 2007.<br />

AVF 2008 HELICOPTER COMMERCIAL PILOT (3 credits). Provides crosscountry<br />

flight training to helicopter private pilot license-holders. Increases total flight<br />

in preparation for the FAA commercial pilot-helicopter practical test. Commercial<br />

pilot-rotorcraft helicopter certificate awarded by FAA on successful completion <strong>of</strong> the<br />

FAA commercial pilot-helicopter knowledge and flight tests. (Requirements: FAA<br />

private pilot-helicopter with instrument rating and FAA class II or higher medical<br />

certificate.) Prerequisites: AVF 2007. Corequisites: AVT 2008.<br />

AVF 2102 FLIGHT 4 COMMERCIAL PILOT-AIRPLANE MULTIENGINE<br />

LAND (2 credits). Provides advanced flight instruction in single-engine and multiengine<br />

land aircraft to prepare students for the FAA commercial pilot practical test.<br />

FAA commercial pilot-airplane multiengine land certificate awarded on successful<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> the FAA commercial pilot written examination, all prerequisites and<br />

corequisites, and this course. (Requirements: FAA private pilot ASEL certificate<br />

with instrument rating, FAA class II or higher medical certificate.) Prerequisites:<br />

AVF 2001. Corequisites: AVT 2002.<br />

AVF 2103 COMMERCIAL PILOT-AIRPLANE SINGLE-ENGINE LAND<br />

ADD-ON TO CP-AMEL (1 credit). Qualifies a commercial pilot-airplane multiengine<br />

land to add a commercial pilot-airplane single-engine land rating. Provides a<br />

combination <strong>of</strong> flight and ground training. Awards the additional rating on successful<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> prerequisites and this course. (Requirements: FAA commercial pilot-<br />

AMEL certificate, FAA class II or higher medical certificate.) Prerequisites:<br />

AVF 2102.<br />

AVF 2105 HELICOPTER EXTERNAL LOAD OPERATIONS (1 credit).<br />

Provides advanced flight instruction in the methods and techniques <strong>of</strong> carrying a<br />

load outside the helicopter. Emphasizes flight safety. Includes short- and long-line<br />

helicopter external load operations. (Requirement: FAA private pilot-helicopter rating.)<br />

Prerequisites: AVF 1004, AVT 1003.<br />

AVF 3001 FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR-AIRPLANE (2 credits). Training for commercial<br />

and instrument-rated pilots to qualify for the FAA Certified Flight Instructor<br />

Certificate. Upon successful completion <strong>of</strong> this course and the required FAA knowledge<br />

tests, the student is awarded the Certificate. (Requirement: FAA Commercial<br />

Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating, prerequisite course and instructor approval.)<br />

Prerequisites: AVT 3101.<br />

AVF 3002 FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR-INSTRUMENT (2 credits). Prepares<br />

certified flight instructors to become instrument flight instructors. Ground instruction<br />

and flight in the instructor’s seat develops skills in analyzing student procedures and<br />

maneuvers in all instrument flight procedures. Students must pass the FAA knowledge<br />

test and flight test. (Requirement: FAA Flight Instructor-Airplane Certificate.)<br />

AVF 3003 STUDENT TEACHING FOR FLIGHT INSTRUCTORS (2 credits).<br />

Practical application <strong>of</strong> flight training skills. Students plan and conduct flight training<br />

under the supervision <strong>of</strong> a senior instructor. Includes the use <strong>of</strong> audiovisual aids, flight<br />

training devices and aircraft. (Requirement: Associate degree, FAA Flight Instructor<br />

Certificate and program chair approval.)<br />

AVF 3004 COMPLEX INSTRUMENT FLIGHT TRAINING (2 credits).<br />

Training in complex instrument aircraft using a combination <strong>of</strong> dual flight and pilotin-command<br />

instrument cross-country flights. Experience in instrument flight and<br />

operations into busy air terminals. Reviews basic instrument flying, air-traffic control<br />

procedures and instrument approaches. (Requirement: FAA Instrument Rating.)<br />

AVF 3005 TECHNICALLY ADVANCED INSTRUMENT FLIGHT<br />

TRAINING (2 credits). Provides ground and flight training for IFR operations in<br />

a technically advanced aircraft. The technically advanced aircraft includes primary<br />

flight display, multifunction display and GPS navigation system. (Requirement: FAA<br />

Instrument Rating.)<br />

AVF 3006 HIGH PERFORMANCE AIRPLANE TRANSITION TRAINING<br />

(1 credit). Provides ground and flight training to qualify pilots for a high-performance<br />

aircraft logbook endorsement. (Requirement: FAA private pilot certificate.)<br />

AVF 3008 AEROBATIC FLIGHT (1 credit). Provides ground and flight training in<br />

basic acrobatic flight maneuvers, recovery from unusual flight attitudes and familiarity<br />

with conventional landing-gear aircraft. (Requirement: FAA Private Pilot Certificate<br />

and 100 flight hours or program chair approval.)<br />

AVF 3009 INTERMEDIATE AEROBATIC FLIGHT (1 credit). Continues the<br />

basic aerobatic training course. Develops basic aerobatic skills to enable students to<br />

perform complex aerobatic routines. (Requirement: Prerequisite course or program<br />

chair approval.) Prerequisites: AVF 3008.<br />

AVF 3010 INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT OPERATIONS TRAINING (1 credit).<br />

Provides ground and flight training for flight operations outside the U.S. Covers FAA,<br />

FCC, U.S. Customs and the Bahamas government regulations. Includes over-water<br />

operations, international weather and international flight planning. Student is responsible<br />

for landing and custom fees. (Requirement: FAA instrument rating.)<br />

AVF 3012 CONVENTIONAL GEAR TRANSITION TRAINING (1 credit).<br />

Provides ground and flight training to qualify pilots for a conventional/tail wheel-type<br />

aircraft logbook endorsement. (Requirement: FAA Private Pilot Certificate.)<br />

AVF 3013 HELICOPTER FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (3 credits). Provides<br />

training for helicopter commercial- and instrument-rated pilots to qualify for the<br />

FAA certified flight instructor-helicopter certificate. Certificate awarded by FAA on<br />

successful completion <strong>of</strong> this course and the required FAA knowledge and flight tests.<br />

(Requirements: FAA commercial pilot-helicopter instrument rating and instructor<br />

approval.) Prerequisites: AVT 3101.<br />

AVF 3014 HELICOPTER FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR-INSTRUMENT<br />

(2 credits). Prepares certified flight instructors to become instrument flight instructors<br />

in helicopters. Develops skills in analyzing student procedures and maneuvers in<br />

all instrument flight procedures through ground instruction and flight in the instructor’s<br />

seat. Requires passing the FAA knowledge test and flight test. (Requirement:<br />

FAA flight instructor-helicopter certificate.)<br />

AVF 3101 FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR-SINGLE-ENGINE ADD-ON TO<br />

FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR-MULTIENGINE LAND (2 credits). Qualifies a flight<br />

instructor-airplane multiengine land to earn an additional flight instructor-airplane<br />

single-engine land rating. Emphasizes instruction in commercial maneuvers, error<br />

analysis and corrective instructional techniques. Additional rating is awarded on<br />

successful course completion. (Requirements: FAA certified flight instructor-AMEL<br />

certificate, FAA class II or higher medical certificate and instructor approval.)<br />

AVF 4001 MULTIENGINE PILOT (2 credits). Qualifies single-engine-rated pilots<br />

to fly multiengine airplanes. Provides a combination <strong>of</strong> multiengine flight, multiengine<br />

flight training device and ground training. Upon successful completion, the student is<br />

awarded the FAA Multiengine Airplane Rating. Prerequisites: AVF 2001, AVF 2002.<br />

AVF 4002 FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR-MULTIENGINE (2 credits). Prepares<br />

multiengine-rated pilots to become multiengine flight instructors. Emphasizes ground<br />

instruction and flight in the instructor’s seat to develop skill in analyzing student<br />

procedures and maneuvers. (Requirement: FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with<br />

Multiengine Rating and FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or prerequisite course.)<br />

Prerequisites: AVF 4001.<br />

AVF 4003 AIR TAXI FLIGHT TRAINING (2 credits). Teaches the duties <strong>of</strong><br />

pilot-in-command and second-in-command in air taxi flight operations and provides<br />

multiengine instrument flight training for air taxi competency. Encompasses ground<br />

instruction and training in multiengine flight simulators and light twin-engine<br />

airplanes. (Requirement: FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate, Instrument and<br />

Multiengine Ratings or prerequisite course.) Prerequisites: AVF 4001.<br />

AVF 4006 ADVANCED MULTIENGINE CREW OPERATIONS (2 credits).<br />

Provides 25 hours pilot-in-command and 25 hours second-in-command multiengine<br />

flight time in extended cross-country operations into busy air terminals within the<br />

U.S. Uses two-student-pilot crew structure under flight instructor supervision. Also<br />

provides experience in a variety <strong>of</strong> airspace, terrain, weather and challenging situations.<br />

(Requirement: Program chair approval.) Prerequisites: AVF 4003.<br />

AVF 4007 HELICOPTER MOUNTAIN FLYING (1 credit). Provides the<br />

theory and practice <strong>of</strong> helicopter operations in mountainous/high altitude conditions.<br />

Emphasizes safety techniques in rotary wing operations in challenging environments<br />

such as high density altitude conditions. (Requirement: FAA private pilot-helicopter<br />

rating.)<br />

AVF 4009 HELICOPTER TURBINE TRANSITION (1 credit). Provides<br />

advanced flight instruction in larger, turbine-powered helicopters such as the Bell 206<br />

Jet Ranger. Includes the challenges associated with flying a turbine-engine aircraft.<br />

Emphasizes maximum performance take<strong>of</strong>fs, auto-rotations and emergency procedures.<br />

(Requirement: FAA private pilot-helicopter rating.) Prerequisites: AVF 1004,<br />

AVT 1003.<br />

AVF 4090 SPECIAL TOPICS IN FLIGHT TRAINING (0-3 credits). Topics<br />

vary by semester and may include advanced instrument flight, advanced aerobatics and<br />

advanced crew resource management. Flight fees vary depending on topic and flight<br />

hours required. May be repeated for a maximum <strong>of</strong> six credits. (Requirement: Program<br />

chair approval.)
