Quality Assurance of Malaria Diagnostic tests7.4.5 Care of other glasswareGlassware such as measuring cylinders, pipettes and staining troughs must always becleaned and dried before use. Rinse any glassware that has been used for preparation ofstain in clean water immediately after use to remove as much of the stain as possible. Itshould then be soaked for some time, preferably overnight in a detergent solution.• washing glassware in detergent gives satisfactory results, provided you rinse itthoroughly in clean water. Deposits of detergent left on glassware can upset the pH• of buffered water and spoil the staining so always make sure that glassware isproperly rinsed before being dried for future use.• clean the staining jars atleast once in a week. Any stain deposits that are allowed todry on glassware will become difficult to remove and may spoil the staining ofsubsequent blood films. They can be removed by soaking the glassware in methanoland then washing it with detergent in the normal way.• similarly, wash the beakers used for washing the stained slides once a week.SOP – Malaria Microscopy© Copyright to Dte. NVBDCP Only.
