Quality Assurance of Malaria Diagnostic testsNATIONAL VECTOR BORNE DISEASE CONTROL PROGRAMME (NVBDCP)STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR QASOP TitleCROSS CHECKING OF ROUTINE SLIDES FOR QASOP No. SOP: M 05 Revision No. 0.0 Effective Date Dec. 2007Replacement No Dated Page No.Next Review onMaximum 2 years from “effective date”SOP: M 05- CROSS CHECKING OF ROUTINE SLIDES FOR EQA8.5.1 PurposeIt is one of the important components of EQA, widely used in malaria microscopy, used forevaluation of a LT’s performance by some external agency.8.5.2 PrincipleThis method of QA in malaria microscopy is the current practice in most countries. Allpositive and 5% of negative slides are sent to Reference laboratory for cross checking byanother superior agency. Feed back is sent promptly to correct the results and also to takeremedial action to improve the capacity of an individual LT.8.5.3 ProcessAs mentioned in the manual on networking and capacity building, networking of laboratorieshas been proposed (Refer Figure 1, Manual on malaria Networking of laboratory) and thestates/UT’s are distributed among these Reference laboratories in the network (Table 1,Manual on malaria Networking of laboratory).8.5.3.1 Primary level laboratory (PHC)• the respective ROH & FWs or ICMR institutes (as mentioned in the chapter 2,Manual on malaria networking of laboratory)would convey a code number (digit) to the states and districts using the NAMMIS (allthe districts in the country have access to computerized National Anti MalariaManagement Information System or NAMMIS).• however, if NAMMIS is not working due to some reason, code number would besent by telegrams/fax etc.• the code shall be issued on 10 th day of the month and the same should be forwardedto the Primary Health Centres on the same day or latest by 11 th day of the month.• on day 12 th , the slides would be dispatched from the PHC to their respective DistrictMalaria Offices (DMOs).• the DMO would send these slides on 13 th day to the cross-checking laboratory underintimation to the State Programme Officer. The DMO would be responsible forensuring that each PHC sends the slides in time for cross-checking.SOP – Malaria Microscopy© Copyright to Dte. NVBDCP Only.
