ChristmasDuring the final week of the fall term the interestsof the students were centered around theChristmas activities. On Sunday evening. December13, 1936, a Christmas play “Venite Adoremus”was presented under the direction of MissDorothy M. Smith.The four scenes of the play depicted a modernhome, an inn in Bethlehem. the plains of Bethlehem,and the Nativity scene. The cast includedthe following: Fred Cook, Ray Higgin, PhilipHegreberg, Delene Hegreberg, Ivy McVeety,Roland Wentzel, Axel Rynning, Marshall Evans,Leland Hanson, Woodrow Evans, Udell Magnusson.Ruth Lerud, James Weckwerth, KatherineAnn Viker, Harold Nabben, Dell Durbahn, AltonArness. Duane Moen, Alta Torkelson, and BettyMcVeety. A large number of parents and friendsf rom the surrounding community enjoyed theChristmas play.The Annual Get-Together Dinner on ThursdayDecember 17, 1936, marked the second Christmasactivity of the week. At six o’clock the banquetopened with the Processional played by the schoolorchestra, under the direction of Miss MarianNelson. Following a delicious meal, a programwas given. The theme of the program was “TheChristmas story.” This story was narrated bySuperintendent A. A. Dowell. Other speakers ofthe evening were Esther McFarlane, a Freshman,who spoke on the topic “The Lambs.” WilsonRadway, a Junior, presented the topic entitled“The Angel.” The “Nativity” was reviewed byMarshall Evans, a Senior, and Richard Radway,an Advanced, presented the topic “The Magi.”The last speaker of the evening was Mr, HowardMyster, who delivered an excellent message on“The Prince of Peace.”Other features of the program were songs bythe choir under the direction of Miss KatherineHennig. The choir included the following students:Ruth Lerud, Grace Olson, Cora Dalager,Dorothy Evans, Janet Krogstad, Patricia Durbahn,Verne Dahlgren, Lloyal Harris, Chester Ingebretson,Wendell Hanson, Joseph Widseth, andHarold Nabben.The program closed by the singing of “AdesteFideles” by the audience.On Friday morning, December 18, between thehours of four-thirty and six o’clock nearly all thepeople living on the campus were awakened bythe Christmas Carolers. The singers included thestudents who had sung in the choir the previousnight. Caroling in the three dormitories and allthe faculty homes, this double sextette left witheveryone a joyful and serene sensation of Christmas.Page 33
