A.-Janet Krogstad, Secretary-Treasurer ; Ruth Lerud, President ;Betty McVeety, Vice President.Many activities are carried on by the YoungMen’s and Young Women’s Christian Associationsduring a school year. This year’s activitieshave been equally successful in comparison toother years.This year the Y.M. and Y.W.C.A.’s weeklySunday morning student gatherings have beenlarge-the largest in attendance of similar meetingsin Minnesota. Various faculty members andstudents led the discussions of lessons of the“Pocket Lesson Quarterly for Young People’sClasses.”Sunday evening joint meetings are very wellattended. Various ministers f rom Crookstonkindly deliver sermons, and student programsare sponsored after which two reels of enlighteningmovies are shown.The first activity under the sponsorship of theY.M.C.A. was the Boys’ Pow-Wow on the firstWednesday evening of the fall term. The Pow-Wow is a jolly assemblage of student boys andnumerous faculty men. Group singing musicalnumbers by the boys; capers of Sambo, thewooden Negro so cleverly directed by Mr. Fokerroaring laughter greeting very well presentedreadings by Mr. Streeter; re-energizing of thepiano by the flying fingers of Mr. Dunham; andpep talks made the evening memorable. Mr.Dunham played, “You Can’t Pull the Wool OverOur Eyes,” as the theme song of the faculty.Did we, boys?Girls had a similar entertainment in RobertsonHall on the same evening directed by the Y.W.C.A. Their “Girls’ Frolic” was equally jovial.The boys formed a snake dance winding fromthe Gymnasium to Robertson where they serenadedthe girls as a group-and many particularlyinteresting individuals were there in the windowsgazing down through the dim light at other particularlyinteresting persons.The “Get-Acquainted” Y.M. and Y.W.C.A.party on the first Saturday night of the fall termproved to be a truly friend-making event. Thefeature of having names printed on a piece ofpaper and worn by their respective owners registersscores of names in others’ minds.This year the Christian Association was responsiblefor collecting $51.35 from the wholevery generous and sympathetic student body andfaculty for the Red Cross, to be used in its taskof helping stricken people of the flood areas.Mr. Clark and Miss Bede have been invaluableleaders and are very largely responsible for thesuccess of the Christian Association of the NorthwestSchool.Page 51
