And as they entered in, lo ! mu-sic began of a sudden to play with a wonderfulsweetness. All about were fantastic castles ofgilded hues of blue and silver, and spears allshining decked the royal hall. And in their midstwas a great Round Table with seats thereat fortwenty persons, and at each place was a brilliantchalice bearing fragrant drink. And beside theseparate places were tiny spears which bore greatwords and the covenant of the Knighthood of theTable Round. Then Merlin, who went before, pointed to a high seat and said, “Behold, lordKing, yonder is the ‘Seat Royal’, and that is thineto sit in.” And there appeared sundry lettersupon the back of the seat, and the letters readthe name, ‘Arthur, Icing.’ Then all the knightsseated themselves and break bread and quaffeddrink and there was great feasting in the Hall.In due time the knights arose and spake in turn, repeating their knightly vows and swearing untothe Covenant of their order. A canopy was made to represent the skybeing all of a cerulean blue sprinkled o’er withsilver stars which sparkled with surpassing radiance. And all around were great trees of blackin silhouette against the sky. And music filledthe air round about them and courtly knights andfair ladies moved in grand procession beneath acanopy of spears around the castle walls.
