The evening program consistedof a Band Concert and special music by membersof the Northwest School Music faculty, Miss GraceWarne, Miss Lois Lohn and Miss Marion Nelson.The main event on the program was an address on“War Versus Agriculture,” by Senator Gerald P.Nye of North Dakota.Judging contests, 4-H demonstration and women’smeetings mere the events on Thursday morning.The sale of purebred livestock, 4-H ClubLeaders’ Conference and Poultry Discussions wereevents for the men on Thursday afternoon. ProfessorAlderman of the University of Minnesota andMiss Harriet Goldstein, home economics authority,delivered interesting talks to the women. The Boys’Glee Club of the Northwest School sang severalsonqs for the entertainment of those present.Thursday evening the program opened with aconcert by the Crookston High School Orchestra. Apiano solo and vocal solos by Miss Marian Nelsonand Miss Katherine Hennig, ‘respectively, were enjoyedby all. The Northwest School feels fortunatein having these two as members of its faculty. Interestingtalks by Dr. and Mrs. Jean F. Piccard ontheir scientific exploration of the stratosphere wereillustrated by slides and moving pictures.Friday, the last day of the Winter Shows Week,began with the Red River Valley Rural School Spell-ing Contest.Other events of the day were the4-H Club demonstrations, while Rural Electrificationseemed to be the subject at both the men’sand women’s meetings. Showmanship contests tookplace in the afternoon. The “Parade of Brides” wasthe feature of the day at the women’s meetings.Friday evening the sixteenth annual Song Festivalof the Northwestern Singers Association brought toa close one of the most successful of the twentyseven annual Winter Shows.Page 49
