Win ter-.___IRed River Valley farmers have always lookedforward to the annual Northwest School Farmers’Week and Red River Valley Winter Shows, and wehope they will continue to do so, because throughthe many lectures and exhibits, farmers who attendthe Winter Shows are given new ideas and some ofthe latest information on agriculture.The twenty-seventh annual Red River ValleyWinter Shows, which was held the week of February8 of this year, opened on Monday morning. Overforty prominent speakers and judges were engagedto assist with the varied educational program. Individualsand organizations cooperated very nicely,thus insuring the success of the event.The highlights of Monday’s program consisted ofLivestock and Crop Judging contests held betweenthe various schools and clubs. In the evening abanquet was held, in honor of the judging teams andjudges, at which the winners of the various contestswere announced. Tuesday’s program opened withthe judging of poultry exhibits, while women meetingswere in progress in the High School Auditorium.After lunch a general meeting of the RedRiver Valley Crops and Soils Association was heldin the Armory, while other events of the afternoonwere women’s meetings, poultry discussions and abanquet in honor of the various county agents. Themain event of the evening program was an addressby L. B. Nichols, secretary to J. Edgar Hoover, whoIS director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.Mr. Nichols discussed the “War Against Crime,”which is being waged by the F. B. I.Wednesday’s program opened with a 4-H ClubLeaders’ Conference, followed by the Rural YouthConference. Championships were awarded to livestockowners, which was followed by an HonorLivestock Breeders’ Association luncheon at the HotelCrookston. The main event of the afternoonwas an Agricultural meeting which was held in theArmory. Other events were the Directors’ meet-Page 48
