xi24 CHAPTER -III25 PROFILE OF THE SURVEYED POPULATIONThis chapter presents a profile of the demographic and socio economic characteristics ofindividual respondents (mothers / caregivers) in terms of their age, education, caste & religion,education of their spouse and age of the youngest child. It also highlights the characteristics ofthe households of the mothers / caregivers to which they belonged in terms of type of family ,house type , main source of drinking water and whether the household have a toilet facility intheir house or not and if not , where the household members go for defecation. It alsoprovides information on household members, average household size, migration status of anymember in the household for livelihood, number of earning adult members, sources oflivelihood and household income.26 3.1 Profile of the mothers /caregivers27 3.1.1 Age distributionAlmost three – fifths of the mothers/ caregivers were in the age group of 20-29 years in boththe intervention and control districts. About 36 percent in intervention districts (35% inintervention AWCs and 37% in intermediate AWCs) and 29 percent in control district were inthe next age bracket of 30-39 years.
