If an applicantbelieves that an accommodated admissionreview is warranted, the applicant must initiatethe process (by law, the Admissions Office cannot address a disability unless the applicant isself identified). The applicant must submit awritten request for an accommodated admissionsreview to the Dean of Admissions andenclose with that request the appropriate documentation.The request will be evaluated by theDean of the <strong>College</strong> or other college official asappropriate, who will forward a recommendationto the Dean of Admissions for inclusion inthe admissions review process.Many <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> alumnae across the country,who serve as Alumnae AdmissionsRepresentatives (AARs), stand ready to answerany questions prospective students may haveabout the <strong>College</strong>. In addition, AARs aretrained to conduct interviews in their local areaif students are unable to arrange a visit to thecampus.<strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>College</strong>The student and her family are expected topay for <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong>’s cost of attendance tothe extent they are able. If the family demonstratesthat it lacks the financial resources todo so, the student becomes eligible to receiveneed-based financial assistance.The student demonstrates her eligibility forassistance through an application process inwhich she and her family submit documentsdetailing their financial income and assets.<strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> applies the Federal Methodologyneed analysis formula to this financial informationto calculate the family’s ability to paythe <strong>College</strong>’s full cost of attendance. The dollaramount calculated is determined to be theexpected family contribution. If that amountis less than <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong>’s cost of attendance,the difference is called financial need, and the<strong>College</strong> offers the student an award package tohelp make up the difference.The student receives an award letter whichspecifies the total amount and the individualsources of assistance, and any follow-up actionthe student must take to have the assistancecredited on her tuition account.The award usually consists of grant, loan,and job money. Grant money is not repaid,loan money must be repaid, and job money isreceived in the form of a monthly paycheck forwork which the student performs in the campusjob to which she is assigned.If the student is the recipient of an academicscholarship from the <strong>College</strong> or a scholarshipor grant from outside the <strong>College</strong>, that mustbe considered part of her financial award. Also,if she obtains additional grant money from asource outside the <strong>College</strong> after she has receivedher award, her award must be reviewed and, ifappropriate, adjusted to ensure that her packagedoes not exceed her need.The loan and job portions of the award areoptional—the <strong>College</strong> does not require thestudent to accept either—but if the studentdeclines either or both, she and her family are
