The campus is located midway betweenKyoto, Nara, and Osaka, and provides studentswith easy access to these major cultural centers.For more information and application, contactthe Director of International Studies.The Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studiesin Rome (ICCS), established in 1965 by representativesof 10 American colleges and universities,provides undergraduate students withan opportunity to study Greek and Latin literature,ancient history, and archaeology andancient art in Rome.The Rome Center operates two terms eachacademic year, one from early September tomid-December, the other from late Januaryto the end of May. Each term allows about15 weeks of instruction and provides one fullterm’s academic credit. For more informationand an application, contact the Classics,Religion, and Philosophy Department and theDirector of International Studies.The Wake Forest/SASASAAS in China Programis a one-semester (Fall) program in Chineselanguage, culture, and current affairs designedexclusively for students who attend schools thatare members of the Southern Atlantic StatesAssociation for Asian and African Studies. Thisprogram is different from most study abroadprograms in China in that students do notneed a background in the language. Except forthe language courses (Beginning to Advanced),all other courses are taught in English. Formore information contact Professor JohnGoulde, and the Directorof International Studies.Middlebury <strong>College</strong>’s Italian Program inFlorence will accept <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> students recommendedby the Department of ModernLanguages and Literatures and the Director ofInternational Studies. Classes are taught onlyin Italian, and students take courses in literature,art, and history. This program requires aminimum grade point average of 3.0 and thecompletion of first and second year Italian.Several other programs are available for <strong>Sweet</strong><strong>Briar</strong> students in other cities of Italy.<strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> offers an intensive summer programin Paris, France—the City of Lights.The four-week home-stay program entailsintensive study in the <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>College</strong>Center at the Alliance française in the LatinQuarter. Excursions to the neighboring citiesof Versailles and Tours, in addition toguided tours of castles in the Loire Valley, theLuxembourg gardens, the Louvre, the Orsaymuseum, and other famous Paris monuments,are included in the fee. Students who successfullycomplete the program receive four hours(two courses) or six hours (three courses) of<strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>College</strong> credit. Open to collegestudents who have completed an intermediatelevel of college French with a 2.75 gpa, and therecommendation of the instructor. The fiveweekhome-stay program entails intensivestudy in the <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>College</strong> Center acrossfrom the University of Seville. Excursions tothe neighboring cities of Granada, Córdoba,and Chiciana, in addition to guided tours ofSeville’s cathedral, Giralda, Alcázar and a tripdown the Guadalquivir River, are included inthe fee. Students who successfully completethe program receive six hours of <strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong><strong>College</strong> credit. Open to college students who
