<strong>Sweet</strong> <strong>Briar</strong> <strong>College</strong>The study of religion introduces students tothe major religious traditions of the world andtheir impact on human culture. Courses focuson both the methodologies of religious studiesand the literature and practices of diverse religiouscommunities. In addition to their specificcontent, these courses develop an appreciationfor the religious point of view and prepareone to live in a religiously pluralistic society.Most courses take an historical approach to thehuman religious experience, and all employ thecritical skills of analysis common to contemporaryscholarship in the humanities and socialsciences. Graduates of the department havegone into many different career fields as well asinto advanced or professional study of religion.
