Chattanooga Choo Choo had just passed the 1,200,000 mark in sales. Chattanooga Choo Choo When the Roses Bloom Again Measure for Measure Slumber Song (Theme) Marching Along Together was presented on this program as a salute to the Boy Scouts of America on their 32 nd anniversary. The tune is quite short. The band did 31 shows this week (week ending Feb. 10 th ) at the Paramount Theater. He devoted this show to a resume of the reasons why he is such an institution. In the Mood, It Happened in Sun Valley and Chattanooga Choo Choo were the Miller standards that opened and closed the show. In between, there were such tried and true devices with this band as the Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue medley (Sweet and Lovely, This Time the Dream’s on Me, The Very Thought of You, Blue Hawaiian Waters), a couple of Ray Eberle numbers (one with the assistance of the Modernaires) and a Jerry Gray jazz instrumental. The Gray jazz, String of Pearls, was certainly the musical high spot of the show. Duets between altoists Skippy Martin and Ernie Caceres and tenorists Al Klink and Tex Beneke were easy to listen to and smart showmanship. Bobby Hackett’s brief cornet piece was neatly essayed and the intermittent bars of MacGregor piano were effective. Effective is the word too, for the effervescent delivery of Marion Hutton in Sun Valley, and the running entrances and exits of the Modernaires, who pranced around as if they were at a party of kindergarten kids. The audience ate it up.
