Alvino Rey and the King Sisters opened the next day. (New York Daily News, Feb. 17, 1942; GMPR) “Glenn Miller’s first week at the Paramount wound up with a boom $73,000; the second week $52,000; and the third and final week $42,000.” (BB, February 28, 1942) While in New York Glenn Miller and a number of other name bandleaders made a series of “spot” recordings in the WMCA studios to promote the sale of defense bonds and stamps.
