Glenn Miller and His Orchestra closed at the Paramount<br />

Theater, <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong> <strong>City</strong>, <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong>. Alvino Rey and the King<br />

“Glenn Miller’s first week at the Paramount wound up<br />

with a boom $73,000; the second week $52,000; and the third<br />

and final week $42,000.” (BB, February 28, 1942)<br />

While in <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong> Glenn Miller and a number of other name<br />

bandleaders made a series of “spot” recordings in the WMCA<br />

studios to promote the sale of defense bonds and stamps.<br />

Each leader paid about $100. <strong>New</strong> idea was under the<br />
