The band took the <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong>-<strong>New</strong> Haven-Hartford RR from<br />

Boston to <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong>. (GMPR)<br />

Steve Lipkins, trumpet, left the Miller band and joined<br />

Jimmy Dorsey. September 17 th was his last day with the band.<br />

The result of this move was that Bobby Hackett, once again,<br />

moved into the trumpet section and Bill Conway doubled on<br />

vocals and guitar. Since the band only had a week to go no<br />

replacement was sought. For the three Chesterfield programs<br />

of September 22, 23 and 24 GMPR show that there were only<br />

16 men and leader who paid their dues to Local 802.<br />
