When the ARM edict cancelling all remote broadcasts<br />

from the Mutual net came through it was interpreted as<br />

including Miller’s show, even though he presented it in the<br />

studio of the local Mutual outlet, KHJ.” (DB, April 15,<br />

Although the Sunset Serenades were cancelled Miller<br />

continued to give away radios and records to the camps now<br />

on the Chesterfield show.<br />

According to the Glenn Miller the Sunset Serenades were<br />

broadcast until May 30 th so that the above mentioned “order”<br />

may not have become effective until May 30 th .<br />

“Glenn Miller’s cigaret show has bee renewed for<br />

another 13 weeks, bringing it up to June 29. Now heard<br />

Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, the sponsor is<br />

endeavoring to change the time (on CBS) to two 30-minute<br />

programs a week. Miller went on the program in December,<br />

1939, and has held the job without a miss ever since.” (M<br />

Glenn Miller announced the last tune as “We’re the Gang<br />

that Keeps Things Moving” but it is properly known as the<br />

Quartermasters Song. This tune was dedicated to (it is also<br />

the official song of) the US Quartermaster’s Corps.
