tachable rings for I" scope tubes work well.Using a pair ofWeaver's #32 bases, a fineinstallation can be had on the S&W Model41, Ruger Mark I or High Standard Mili-,tary. Also Weaver's # 16 base has a radiuscut that will fit the contour of the HighStandard Bull Barrel. So there are manyways to install a scope on the ,22 targetpistol.Once a shooter is enjoying the advantagesofthe scoped .22, he will certainly beconsidering scoping the CF and .45 tournamentpistols. With the CF, installation isquite simple as the scope must be mountedon a side grip mount. The left grip plate isremoved and a combination grip plate andscope mount is installed using the gripplate screws to secure. Grip mounts arecommercially available or they can becustom built and are easy to install. Thismount can be used on the GovernmentModel .45 ACP also. Another method ofmounting a scope on the big bore targetpistol is the slide mount. This method doesnot work too well with the CF pistolbecause there is just not enough workingpressure in the .38 special cartridge toprovide reliable functioning.Obviously, there must be enough workingforce on the slide to overcome theadditional weight of scope and mount. So"... concentrated eHortwill produce holdingability on par withiron sighted pistdls."WHAT HAPPENSWHEN YOULOAD &FIRETHESECARTRIDGESIN ASCOPEMOUNTEDNDER,• ERIESER ARMSthe grip mount is the best choice for the CFpistols. Considering the slide mount on theColt Gold Cup and the GovernmentModel in .45 ACP, a very good reliableinstallation can be had using the LeupoldGold Cup slide mount (Leupold, Box 688,Beaverton, OR 97075) with some alternationswhich we will discuss later in thisarticle. Considering the additional weightof the scope and mount as situated on theslide, there enters into the picture again thematter of sufficient working pressure toreliably function the slide. (At this point letit be established that this writer considersanything more than one malfunction per300 rounds as unacceptable.) Tests haveproven conclusively that the conventional3.5 grs. Bullseyel200 gr. bullet reload orfactory match .45 ACP ammo will notfunction reliably using the slide-mountedscope. While hardball will work perfectly,it is getting expensive and hard to find. Itappears that in most cases properly reloadedammunition is the answer for theslide-mounted scoped pistol. Much experimentationand many thousands of roundsof testing have proven that the slidemounted scoped,45 will function reliablywith a load of 4.5 grs. bullseye1200 gr.bullet.
