DeptAH3/81Temecula. CA 9239074orders are welcome.one should keep the reservoir half full toinsure best results.Anyone who considers himself a serioushandgun shooter and reloader, or anyonewho feels he's about to burn up goodlyquantities of handgun fodder, should takea long, hard look at the C-H No. 333-Xand No. 444-X. Both are considerablyfaster than the single-station presses whichrequire die changing for each operation, yet both are much less expensive than .thefully automated progressive machines. Myinformation tells me the new No. 444-X,complete with dies for one caliber (includinga carbide sizer), Auto Prime unit, shellholders and powder measure plus onebushing, retails for $269.50. Without thedies, but with four shell holders, powdermeasure, and priming arm, the No. 444-Xgoes just $158.00.An Auto Prime accessory for the originalNo. 333-X press goes .$29.95 with atube for one primer size. An extra primerstud in $2.65; an extra tube, $3.90.Additional information can be had bywriting Mr. Tony Sailer, C-H Tool & DieCorp., Box "L", ....Owen WI 54460. ~CONTROLLABLE .44(Continuedfrom page 47)indeed save lives. On the other hand I wasdetermined not to relax my standards..During the past year, although I am nowretired from law enforcement, I have beenexperimenting with the 4" S&W .44.Magnum as a police handgun capable ofdelivering accuracy within the strict timelimits of the ppc. It has always beenapparent that the problem must be approachedby modifying both the gun andthe ammunition. Particularly the ammunition,in that no current factory loading isdesigned for optimum results in a short 4" .barrel, not even the Remington mediumvelocity load. Most commercial loadingsproduce top performance in hunting stylebarrels from 7112 to 8:Yg inches long. Som."commercial ammo even performs best in20" barrels. Hunting is undoubtedly themost common use to which we put a .44Magnum, other than possibly prestige inownership.First, however, let's look at the gun andsee what can be done to tame our shortversion of the S&W Model 29. Startingfrom scratch, I purchased a brand new 4"and ran into two initial disappointments. Ihad to pay a premium price for this highconsumer demand item. I couldn't touch itfor a penny less than $50 over suggestedretail. The second problem was that itneeded an action job from a qualifiedpistolsmith before any serious use could becontemplated. One can only shake hishead at the lack ofquality control in much. AMERICAN HANDGUNNER· MARCH/APRIL,1981
