Circle size isproportional to abundance of species at each station.tory [34]. The low numbers of recruitsof euryhaline marine species found in thetidal channels of Lesina Lagoon are in thefirst instance probably due to the modestflows of these channels and to the limitedtidal range of the marine waters off the lagoon(about 30 cm, [35].In this study some differences in the totalnumber of YOY marine fish capturedand in the temporal dynamics of recruitmentin the two tidal channels were observed. The discrepancy in the volume ofrecruitment and in the temporal trend ofthe catch for most of the marine speciesfound may be due to the different morphometricfeatures of the two tidal channels interms of total length and mean width anddepth. The Acquarotta Channel is aboutthree times the length of the SchiapparoChannel. This fact certainly has an effecton the time taken to pass through the twotidal channels by YOY marine fish, whichmay by itself have caused the different temporalrecruitment trends observed in thetwo tidal channels. Further studies on thetiming of YOY marine fish recruitment tothe tidal channels of Lesina Lagoon withcloser sampling times (e.g. daily) are essentialto understand whether the differentmorphometric characteristics of the twotidal channels, which influence the dynamicsof water exchange between sea andlagoon, may also cause a different degreeof attractiveness for marine juveniles in the2109
