SKYROCKETING NEED
When the company was founded in
November 2005, the two entrepreneurs
Alexander Hagerup and Lasse
Øien were quite forward-thinking
as to what would come to be a vital
business need in the future. They
created the best cloud backup
service possible whilst strategically
builing a knowledge-hub and a
strong sales organization,
resulting in an average growth of
90–100 percent each year.
The company provides a partner
program where they enable more
than 450 IT resellers in Scandinavia
to sell their cloud backup services.
The company has also moved into
larger and more complex segments,
serving customers such as the
shipping company Frontline.
“We have ambitions to expand our
business rapidly outside of Norway.
We have already entered the Swedish
market. Next steps are reinforcing
our Swedish organization and to
establish ourselves in Germany,” says
Svenkerud who believes the international
potential to be huge.

The company has been a security
advocate since the beginning,
working closely with the trade
organization to introduce improved
security standards for backup procedures.
They were the first Norwegian
company to be certified according
to CTRL – an online backup security
standard legislated by Norwegian
trade organization IKT Norge.
“Secure backup routines have always
been our number one focus. We know
how devastating the alternative can be.
Eighty percent of businesses that lose
all digital data due to damages actually
go bankrupt,” explains Svenkerud.

One company that experienced a
near-catastrophe was the consulting
company Orbion Consulting. During
an office fire in 2009, an agreement
with the Online Backup Company
signed only a few months prior to
the incident saved the company’s
vital digital data.
“The fire lasted for two days”, says
Martin Sode Nielsen at Orbion
Consulting. “We lost a lot of important
paper documents, but fortunately
all our digital data was saved and we
were able to continue our projects
with our clients as normal. This
would not have been possible had
we not signed this agreement that
secured another physical data
storage location.”
More business managers should ask
themselves the following question
according to Svenkerud: “What happens
if all our digital information is
gone tomorrow?”
“Our strength is that we offer both a
secure outsourcing solution and can
offer qualified advice for that particular
company’s needs. It’s really a
low cost investment if you consider
the critical consequences of not
having adequate backup solutions in
place,” he concludes.
