Kuldiha SanctuaryEncompassed in the Nilgiri range of Balasore Wildlife division, Kuldiha sanctuary, 14kms from Nilgiri, 22 km from Balasore and 30 km from Udala (in Mayurbhanjdistrict), is situated close to a sting of tourist spots in the districts of Balasore, namelyChandipur sea beach, Remun’s Gopinath temple, Jagannath temple in the Nilgiritownship and the cave shrine of Panchalingeswar and Kuldiha. Jharanaghati, theserpentine hilly road, the Sal forests, the streams and the wintering ducks in the Rissiareservoir provide unforgettable experience to eco-tourists. Known for its leopard,elephant, gaur, sambar and giant squirrel, occasionally Kuldiha also reveals the pugmarks of tiger that may have come out of Similipal. The sanctuary is linked withSimilipal through Sukhupada hills and Nato hill ranges and has an elephantpopulation which is a satellite to the main population in Similipal. The suitablemonths to visit the sanctuary are between October to May. The sanctuary faceschallenges from advancing township and mining in the periphery.72
