PP‐63Thus there are some morphogenetic (?) trends which can be detected in thedevelopment of attachment discs of Ediacaran (Vendian) sessile benthic organisms. Ingeneral terms they are similar to those of root system in plants although the disc‐bearingPetalonama are often thought to be of cnidarian grade (e.g. Jenkins & Gehling, 1978).Further research on the basis of the above model could improve the use of attachment discsfor biostratigraphy.This work was supported in part by the Russian Foundation of Basic Research, projectsno. 11‐05‐00960, the Scientific School of Academicians B.S.
