Parliamentary and health service ombudsman annual report 2007-08Our workload and performance:facts and figuresBeing accountable for our performance against the plansand targets we have set ourselves is important to us. Overall,we made big strides during the year on a number of ourpriorities, for example in implementing changes required toimprove our services for the future, which dominated the year;and commencing key programmes of work around knowledgemanagement and outreach. However, in others, such as someof our operational service standards and targets, we have notachieved what we set out to deliver. This was due to a rangeof issues and developments during the year that we haveaddressed. Lessons learned have been taken on board andsteps taken to ensure that we continue to make the serviceimprovements achieved in previous years.Our 2007-08 Corporate Business Plan identified six keycorporate priorities for the year. These were:• achieving our service standards and improving outcomesfor complainants;• developing and using management information toimprove performance;• getting the most from staff, systems and financial resources;• managing change;• capturing, organising and sharing our knowledge; and• developing our external relations, influence and impact.57
