General Orders of the Turks and Caicos Islands Public Service - 1998 EditionCHAPTER 7REMUNERATIONOrder 7.1Salaries7.1.1 The salary grades and scales applicable to Officers in the Public Service are given in AppendixC.7.1.2 The salary grades and scales are related to the various posts in the Public Service and aredetailed in the Annual Estimates.7.1.3 No Officer may be appointed to a post and paid the appropriate salary unless provision for thatsalary has been made in the Annual Estimates.7.1.4 An Officer will receive the full salary of the post from the date on which he or she assumes theduties of the post, or for an Overseas Officer, from the date of arrival in the Islands.7.1.5 Except with the authority of the Chief Secretary no salary will be paid to an Officer in respectof any period during which he or she has been absent without permission.7.1.6 An Officer who is proceeding on leave outside the Islands may receive, prior to embarkation,his or her salary for the whole of the month in which he or she leaves the Islands.7.1.7 Salaries will normally be paid not later than four days before the last da,. of the month. In themonth of December salaries and other emoluments will be paid on dates determined by the ChiefSecretary in consultation with the Permanent Secretar\ (Finance).7.1.8 An Officer will be required as a condition of his or her Appointment to accept salary paymentto a bank account, provided that the Chief Secretary may use her discretion to pay cash in areas of theIslands where payment by cheque is not practicable.7.1.9 The salary of an Officer whose appointment is terminated by dismissal shall be paid up to andincluding the day immediately prior to the date of dismissal and then cease.Order 7.2Increments7.2.1 Where the salary of any post is in an incremental scale, subject to the provisions of theseOrders, it shall be normal for an Officer appointed on a permanent luasis to he paid initially theminimum salary of the scale.7.2.2 An Officer on first Appointment may be given incremental credit for approved qualifications orfor approved relevant experience.7.2.3 Where an Officer is promoted to an Office carrying an incremental scale and his or her salarybefore promotion was less than the new minimum point then the minimum point will be paid. Wherethe salary before promotion was greater than the new minimum point then the increment next abovethe old salary will be paid.23
