<strong>General</strong> <strong>Orders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Turks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Caicos</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> - 1998 EditionCHAPTER 7REMUNERATIONOrder 7.1Salaries7.1.1 The salary grades <strong>and</strong> scales applicable to Officers in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> are given in AppendixC.7.1.2 The salary grades <strong>and</strong> scales are related to <strong>the</strong> various posts in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>and</strong> aredetailed in <strong>the</strong> Annual Estimates.7.1.3 No Officer may be appointed to a post <strong>and</strong> paid <strong>the</strong> appropriate salary unless provision for thatsalary has been made in <strong>the</strong> Annual Estimates.7.1.4 An Officer will receive <strong>the</strong> full salary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> post from <strong>the</strong> date on which he or she assumes <strong>the</strong>duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> post, or for an Overseas Officer, from <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> arrival in <strong>the</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s.7.1.5 Except with <strong>the</strong> authority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary no salary will be paid to an Officer in respect<strong>of</strong> any period during which he or she has been absent without permission.7.1.6 An Officer who is proceeding on leave outside <strong>the</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s may receive, prior to embarkation,his or her salary for <strong>the</strong> whole <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> month in which he or she leaves <strong>the</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s.7.1.7 Salaries will normally be paid not later than four days before <strong>the</strong> last da,. <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> month. In <strong>the</strong>month <strong>of</strong> December salaries <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r emoluments will be paid on dates determined by <strong>the</strong> ChiefSecretary in consultation with <strong>the</strong> Permanent Secretar\ (Finance).7.1.8 An Officer will be required as a condition <strong>of</strong> his or her Appointment to accept salary paymentto a bank account, provided that <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary may use her discretion to pay cash in areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Isl<strong>and</strong>s where payment by cheque is not practicable.7.1.9 The salary <strong>of</strong> an Officer whose appointment is terminated by dismissal shall be paid up to <strong>and</strong>including <strong>the</strong> day immediately prior to <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> dismissal <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>n cease.Order 7.2Increments7.2.1 Where <strong>the</strong> salary <strong>of</strong> any post is in an incremental scale, subject to <strong>the</strong> provisions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se<strong>Orders</strong>, it shall be normal for an Officer appointed on a permanent luasis to he paid initially <strong>the</strong>minimum salary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> scale.7.2.2 An Officer on first Appointment may be given incremental credit for approved qualifications orfor approved relevant experience.7.2.3 Where an Officer is promoted to an Office carrying an incremental scale <strong>and</strong> his or her salarybefore promotion was less than <strong>the</strong> new minimum point <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> minimum point will be paid. Where<strong>the</strong> salary before promotion was greater than <strong>the</strong> new minimum point <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> increment next above<strong>the</strong> old salary will be paid.23
