<strong>General</strong> <strong>Orders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Turks</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Caicos</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Service</strong> - 1998 Edition7.7.4 When an Officer has, with <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> thief Secretary, to accommodate ano<strong>the</strong>r Officeror an <strong>of</strong>ficial guest <strong>of</strong> Government, he or she will be pennitted to receive an allowance as set out inAppendix D for every night <strong>the</strong> guest stays in his or her house.7.7.5 No subsistence allowance will be paid in respect <strong>of</strong> an Officer's absence from his or her stationfor a period <strong>of</strong> six hours or less. For an absence which exceeds six hours but is not overnight <strong>the</strong> ratelaid down in Appendix D will be paid.7.7.6 Officers who are required to travel on duty outside <strong>the</strong> Isl<strong>and</strong>s, o<strong>the</strong>r than to attend a course ortraining or for medical treatment, will be eligible to receive subsistence allowance as laid down inAppendix D. Such subsistence allowance is payable only in respect <strong>of</strong> complete periods <strong>of</strong> 24 hours,provided that broken periods failing short <strong>of</strong> 24 hours but which include a night may be claimed for at<strong>the</strong> fall rate. This subsistence allowance may not be claimed when an Officer is travelling on duty <strong>and</strong>a daily subsistence allowance is provided by any o<strong>the</strong>r Government or agency, except that where <strong>the</strong>o<strong>the</strong>r subsistence allowance is less than that provided in Appendix D <strong>the</strong> Officer may claim <strong>the</strong>difference. Where an Officer is a guest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> host Government or agency <strong>and</strong> is not called upon tomeet charges for accommodation <strong>and</strong> meals he or she may not claim subsistence allowance.7.7.7 Officers who attend courses <strong>of</strong> training or study or who travel for medical purposes outside <strong>the</strong>Isl<strong>and</strong>s will not normally be eligible to receive subsistence allowance but in special cases aii Officerattending a course or going for medical treatment will be eligible to receive subsistence allowance atrates which will be determined by <strong>the</strong> Chief Secretary in <strong>the</strong> light <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> circumstances.7.7.8 When an Officer while on leave <strong>of</strong> absence abroad, is required to undertake <strong>of</strong>ficial dudes in<strong>the</strong> country in which he or she is spending his or her leave, <strong>the</strong> Officer will be eligible to receivesubsistence allowance as follows:i) if <strong>the</strong> duties to be performed necessarily entail <strong>the</strong> Officer's absence overnight from <strong>the</strong>town in which he or she is spending his or her leave: a daily allowance as detailed inAppendix D.5.1;ii) if <strong>the</strong> Officer is not absent overnight from <strong>the</strong> town in which he or she is spending his or herleave, a daily allowance as set out in Appendix D.4.1, provided that an absence <strong>of</strong> six hoursor more from <strong>the</strong> Officer's place <strong>of</strong> residence is involved.7.7.9 No subsistence allowance is payable in respect <strong>of</strong> periods spent in transit where meals oraccommodation are included with passage costs or in respect <strong>of</strong> overnight or e<strong>the</strong>r stops where mealsor accommodation are provided at <strong>the</strong> expense <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> carrier.7.7.10 Should an Officer necessarily be detained overnight in <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> a iourney whilst on dutywhere he or she is not entitled to accommodation or meals at <strong>the</strong> expense <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> carrier he or she willbe eligible to claim subsistence allowance as detailed in Appendix D.5.1Order 7.8Transport allowance7.8.1 An Officer who possesses <strong>and</strong> maintains his or her own means <strong>of</strong> transport <strong>and</strong> uses it with <strong>the</strong>prior permission <strong>of</strong> his or her Responsible Officer for <strong>the</strong> efficient performance <strong>of</strong> his or her <strong>of</strong>ficialduties shall receive a mileage allowance in respect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> travelling undertaken at <strong>the</strong> rates laid down inAppendix D.27
